The short answer
A trade licence alone is not a complete bank application. Prepare current company records, ownership and signing authority, identity evidence and a clear explanation of the business and its funding. Then obtain the chosen bank’s checklist for your legal structure. The bank decides what additional evidence it needs and whether to accept the relationship.
This is a preparation guide, not a guarantee of an account, processing time or a universal document list.
Start with the bank’s list, then organise your file
Emirates NBD’s business-account page lists a valid licence or incorporation certificate, partner and signatory identity documents, constitutional documents, authority to operate the account and banking history. Its detailed requirements also include address evidence. These are that bank’s published requirements; another bank or application route may differ.
| Folder | Preparation check |
|---|---|
| Company | Use the current legal name, licence and amendments—not an expired scan from the original setup. |
| Ownership and authority | Keep the ownership chart and signing authority consistent with the underlying documents. |
| People | Check names, validity dates and completeness before uploading requested identity pages. |
| Operations | Write a plain-language description of what you sell, to whom and how you get paid. |
| Funding | Prepare an explanation and supporting evidence for the money you intend to introduce. |
| Open questions | Keep a dated request list with one owner, the response and any outstanding clarification. |
Source of funds is not the same as source of wealth
The CBUAE distinguishes the origin of particular money entering or moving through an account from the sources that built a person’s overall wealth. Higher-risk relationships may require additional evidence of one or both. A statement showing a balance may not, by itself, explain how that money was earned.
Practical preparation: if the proposed funding is a shareholder contribution, write down who is contributing, how much, from which account and what produced those funds. Ask the bank which supporting records it requires. Do not rename a loan as sales income or invent customer invoices to make the file look active.
New business with no trading history?
Explain that the company has not started trading. Separate signed contracts from enquiries, forecast receipts from actual revenue, and intended capital from money already received. Label forecasts clearly and keep them consistent with your business description.
A useful one-page briefing answers: What is the activity? Who are the expected customers and suppliers? Which countries and currencies are involved? What volumes are expected, and why? Who controls payments? This is Meraki’s suggested preparation format, not a prescribed regulatory form.
When the bank asks you to update KYC
KYC is ongoing. Emirates NBD says banks must maintain valid customer identity information and warns that incomplete or inaccurate information can affect access to accounts and services. Use your own bank’s instructions rather than assuming another bank’s deadline or document requirements apply.
- Verify the request through the bank’s known app, website or relationship contact before sending documents.
- List every requested item; do not repeatedly send the same attachment without checking what remains unanswered.
- Keep the submission reference and follow up through the bank’s official channel.
- Do not share banking passwords, PINs or one-time codes with a consultant.
- If access is restricted, ask the bank which documents and review steps remain; no consultant can promise release.
Bank KYC does not replace your own compliance obligations
The bank reviewing your company is a different process from assessing whether your own activities fall within a regulated DNFBP category. Passing a bank review is not proof that an AML programme or beneficial-ownership filing is complete.

How Meraki can help
Meraki can help organise an application file and coordinate questions within an agreed scope. Bank approval remains the bank’s decision. In your initial enquiry, describe the activity and the issue; do not upload identity documents, bank statements or confidential customer records through the general contact form.
